One of my greatest joys in life is creating really cool software. Something very useful that works in a simple manner – that’s elegance. So you can say that Windward exists in part so we can create cool products.
Ok, that doesn’t speak to what though. The what comes from various sources. We pay a lot of attention to what is proposed on our ideas page, although some ideas, no matter how many votes, will still be declined. We also talk to both prospects & customers a lot. I’m flying up to Toronto later this week to talk to 6 of our customers and a large part of that is learning what they want.
And of course there’s what we come up with internally. The new products and the gigantic changes in the existing products tend to come from people within Windward. Some of these ideas are great. Some are awful. And some we’re still waiting to see if they pay off. This is where we try to solve additional problems.
Key to all this is that we also need to keep the program easy to use. I take great pride in the fact that we’re on version 16 and it has not become this complex behemoth. Most of what we add does not make it more complex. For example, adding Salesforce as a datasource added zero complexity to the program. Users who don’t connect to Salesforce see one more connector in the connection wizard – and that’s it.
So can you know for certain that something you propose will get added? No. But you can rest assured that we put a lot of time, effort, & thought into what functionality to add. And our guide on all this is to make it ever more useful & easy.
