A dataset is a defined subset of data from a datasource. Datasets provide a simplified model of the data to the template designer, reducing each down to only the data fields the designer is interested in. In addition a dataset can combine data from multiple tables/nodes to present it as a single simplified table/node. The created dataset is then treated as a distinct datasource and can be used in queries the same as any datasource.
